Building A Link Exchange Directory

Tuesday, May 26th, 2009

There is great value in true reciprocal links; however, if you
manage your links pages properly, those pages can also bring you
additional search engine traffic. Tips in organizing your link
exchange directory. – Ensure your main directory categories page
is linked from your main page. It’s important that search
engines can find it. Having properly organized link pages will
provide you with strong keyword based pages. If you have a
sitemap generated, include your full directory in there as well.
Not only will this benefit you, but also your link exchange
partner will get the proper credit for the exchange. – Keep each
site theme on it’s own page. Group all home-based business
websites on one page, all sports websites on another, all web
hosting on it’s own, etc… – Keep the pages short. It is bad
practice to put 100++ links on a page. Ideally the maximum
amount of reciprocal links on one page should be 20 and link to
additional pages as needed. – Modify your Meta tags Set your
Meta tags to reflect the contents of that link page – Always
link back to your main site On each link exchange page ensure
you have a keyword-based text link back to your main URL. If
someone finds your website through a search engine based on a
page from your directory, you will want them to visit your main
page ;-) Keep your link back to your main page in a prominent
place within your directory pages. – Keep a submission form for
surfers to request a link exchange Having a reciprocal link
exchange form available for surfers saves you some time in
searching out true reciprocal link exchanges. When a link is
submitted for inclusion in your directory. Ensure it meets the
true reciprocal link principals; make every link exchange count!
- Automate as much as possible. There are several very
impressive link exchange scripts available for free on the
Internet. These scripts can save you time and money while you
are building your link exchange directory. And lastly…. -
Update Regularly Make it part of your routine to exchange links
on a regular basis. Whether you have time to exchange a few
links a day, a week or a month, making true reciprocal link
exchanges will benefit your site for years to come.

The Basics Of DSL Internet Service

Tuesday, May 26th, 2009

The days of unreliable Internet connections, impatiently waiting for web pages to load, and waiting hours to download something from the Internet are quickly becoming obsolete. Dial-up Internet, which used to be the standard for those seeking Internet access, is rapidly being replaced by faster, more reliable Internet access technologies. One of those technologies, DSL Internet service, is one of the most popular and affordable options for the home Internet customer. There are things to be aware of though, if you are considering using DSL for your Internet access.

DSL, or digital subscriber line, is a form of broadband Internet technology, that has download speeds that span 128 Kbps (Kilobits per second) to 24,000 Kbps, depending on the level of service purchased by the customer and the particular DSL technology in use by the ISP (Internet service provider). The technology dates back to 1988, when engineers at Bellcore (formerly Bell Communications Research, Inc., now Tellcordia Technologies) developed a method of transmitting a digital signal along the unused frequency spectrum on the twisted pair cables that ran between the central office (in a phone company, the location that houses the equipment that connects phone calls) and customer locations. Using DSL allowed a regular telephone line to provide digital (Internet) service without getting in the way of existent telephone service on the line.

DSL did not take off immediately, because it was more profitable for local telephone companies to simply install a second phone line in a home in order to provide dial-up Internet service in addition to regular telephone service. However, when cable television companies began offering and implementing their new high-speed Internet technology (via cable modems) nearly a decade later, local telephone carriers jumped in with the competition and began offering up the DSL technology to customers. Today, DSL remains the primary competition for cable companies and their high-speed Internet technology.

Despite the more reliable connections and faster rates of data transmission, there are some potential drawbacks to be aware of regarding DSL Internet service. For starters, the farther your house is from the telephone company’s central office, the less bandwidth you will have access to. This means slower data transmission rates, and therefore might mean less enjoyment for things like online gaming, video viewing, and picture uploading. Some might not notice the slower capacity for things like email and other basic uses, though.

Another drawback to DSL is the potential cost. There is equipment to purchase, such as the modem and DSL router, plus there are sometimes installation fees. The good news is that competition drives service providers to often offer incentives and freebies for choosing their services, such as free self-installation, rebates for equipment purchases, and large amounts of mailbox storage. However, if you are not satisfied with your DSL service, you are often contractually obligated to them for a certain period of time, and will probably be required to pay a hefty fee for canceling early (up to $200 sometimes). Monthly prices for DSL Internet service range from $14.95 per month for basic DSL to upwards of $49.96 per month for more advanced versions of the technology.

Yet another drawback to DSL Internet service is that customers often see a slower connection than promised by the ISP. This is due to some service providers oversubscribing their service. Their often just isn’t enough bandwidth to go around. But ISP’s make the argument that all of their customers are never online at the same time. This can be particularly frustrating for businesses using DSL that rely heavily on the Internet for their daily dealings.

Don’t let the drawbacks keep you from exploring the possibility of DSL Internet service. As with any new technology, there are kinks, and ISP’s work on a regular basis to make service to their customers faster and more reliable. There are also many ISP’s that offer DSL for you to choose from, so the incentives and promotions for picking one over another can mean saving money and getting more extras. Though it can be frustrating and seem costly, DSL Internet service is still a more cost effective option than some of the other types of broadband Internet service, such as satellite Internet.

Video Game Design Now a Viable Career Path

Sunday, May 24th, 2009

When you think about it, it’s hard to believe that video games have really only been around for about 30 years. No other industry has progressed as rapidly and as successfully in that time as the video game market. Think about it this way: in the late 1970s, the most sophisticated gaming system was Pong. An electronic ball, two moveable electronic paddles on each side of the screen and a single white line dividing the screen was considered the apex of video game technology, and it was tremendously popular. Pong was the game to have, which made sense because it was just about the only game you could have.

Today, video games are so advanced that it is sometimes difficult to tell where the game ends and where real life begins. After all, the Nintendo Wii system mirrors actual human movement, so you are, in fact, really bowling when you play a bowling game on the Wii. There is almost no separation between the game and real life. The game IS real life.

So video games have advanced tremendously over the past three decades, and they’re now a major component of the entertainment industry, responsible for generating billions of dollars of revenue for their manufacturers. And even though they’re just games, they’re a serious business, with thousands of man-hours put into designing a single video game. In fact, you can actually go to school now if you’d wish to learn how to design a video game. That’s the career choice for many young people in Wilmington, DE and around the globe. Just a quarter century ago it would have been hard to imagine that designing a video game would ever be a viable career path, but it’s a sign of just how much the video game industry has grown.

As a result of their worldwide popularity, video games now attract top voice talent. A-list actors and actresses have lent their voices to video games, including Nathan Fillion, Jack Black, James Caan and even Marlon Brando. Clearly, video games are more than just games when they can draw such acclaimed voice talent.

Video games have come a long way – just image where they’ll be in another 30 years.

The Crooked Straight

Friday, May 22nd, 2009

poker hands often end up with showdowns, where one or more players call another player’s bet. A bettor who is called is obligated to show their poker hand. Those doing the calling, who may have losing hands, can simply muck their hands rather than show.

However, it is not always wise to immediately muck your hand if you think you’ve lost. Imagine this scenario, which happened during a low-limit game at a local card room. A gentleman player had a pocket 8s, and completed a set on the flop, which came 4-7-8. Everyone checked, except one lady who bet. The gentleman raised, and she called.

The turn brought an Ace, the lady checked, the gentleman bet, and she called. The river card was a 9. Now there was a straight possibility out there. This time the lady bet, and the gentleman paused, giving it some thought before calling the bet. He looked at his opponent, and asked, “Did you make the straight?” and the lady nodded yes. He threw his pocket 8s into the muck.

The lady was ready to toss hers too, when another player at the table objected, stating that she was obligated to show her cards since she had been called. She turned over 6-9, showing only a busted straight, and she acted befuddled as though she really thought she had made the straight. Was this a deliberate act or was the lady truly confused? No one will ever know.

Because the gentleman had mucked his winning poker online hand after calling her bet, the house declared the lady the winner. Happily, this was a small pot, so there was not real reason to engage in heated argument over it. However, it does teach a valuable lesson – make sure you actually see you are beaten before mucking your hand!

Cheapskate No Stress ISP’s

Wednesday, May 20th, 2009

I would love to be able to use DSL or Cable internet service, but being way out here in the boon docks, it isn’t possible. I could easily sign up for satellite internet if I wanted to pay one hundred dollars a month for it. No thank you! I’m cheap and I like it that way! But, that leaves me with dial-up, and everyone knows dial-up is sad. Sad and slow, especially if the phone company haven’t updated the outside wires since 1950. So I add static noise to sad and slow.

Dial-up isn’t all that bad anymore, though. They’ve added accelerators, boosters, turbos, speedband and all sorts of stuff to make your surfing better, faster, and more enjoyable. And, it works most of the time. Even the cheapest ISP’s include these accelerators for under ten dollars a month. I chose one without a ‘My Home’ page; that alone makes it a winner for me. It’s neat, clean and fast for less money and no stress. They get me online quickly and that’s all I ask of them.

I’ve used other services that force a home page on you. I’ve even used the ‘Big One’ a time or two. You know, the one that sends out the free cd’s so crafters can make those neat wind chimes? By the way, I wonder if their subscribers realize they’re paying for all those wind chimes?

I don’t mind trying new isp’s, but I avoid those that insist on including a ‘Home Page’. I don’t like their intrusive way of doing business. The home page is so ‘busy’ I can’t find what I’m looking for. I looked for five minutes one time for my account link. The window was full of news, movie stars and sales ads; none of which I’m interested in. It’s so crowded with ’stuff’ along its borders, it reminds me of my attic.

They usually aren’t user friendly either, at least not to this user. When I feel the stress begin to build, I minimize their window and open a new IE window. A couple I’ve tried won’t allow me to use a Blank home page (which is what I do with IE). To get online with the service, I must open their slow-loading, image-filled page. Being forced to do anything causes stress and who needs it? Not me!

I don’t want an intrusive update downloaded every time I log on and off, either, and I don’t want to be ignored when I say no thanks. Paying thirty dollars a month for services that are certainly no better than ISP’s charging ten dollars or less is incomprehensible to me. Why would anyone waste their hard-earned cash like that? Especially those paying with their Social Security allowance. Not this cheapskate!

There are many, many good, cheap ISP’s worth checking out. Support is always good on those I’ve used, and when they’re new businesses you know they try harder. Give them a chance.

Search ‘cheap isps’ and save some money; you might even save yourself some stress, and that’s what it’s all about. I’m running a wonderful one I began this month. I was charged only .99 cents for the first month, and that includes the accelerator! I won’t tell you the name though, unless they give me a year’s free service.

Eurocell the Roofline Specialist – Bi-fold Doors: See the Light

Saturday, May 16th, 2009

Considering that housebuilders install patio doors in around 65 per cent of the homes they build, it
is surprising that for many decades the typical in-line sliding door has dominated the market.
Although it still remains a practical alternative on many projects, it always had the inherent
problem that it only created half the opening access.

Another common type of patio door is the hinged, or French door, which can be swung either inwards
or outwards. Outward-opening French doors create valuable interior space, providing more room for
furniture and accessories, while inward-opening French doors do the same for a patio or decking
area. Although they offer full opening access, French doors are only practical for openings of up to
two metres, owing to the weight constraints on the hinges created by the glass.

For many years, sliding patio and hinged French doors have dominated the market. Their limitations
in either the opening access, or maximum opening widths, were accepted by the homeowners simply
because they enabled much more light to flood into the home. This desire to maximise the amount of
natural light in the home has been a growing trend for many years. It is well documented that
lighter brighter homes are healthier – as well as more valuable. Many estate agents have reported
that homes which feel lighter are perceived by potential home owners as happier and therefore
easier to find a buyer.

Even within the new build market daylighting, which this phenomenon is known as, is being used to
great effect by many housebuilders. Many are now paying particular attention to introducing daylight
where the aim is to maximize visual comfort or to reduce energy use.

With the requirement for more energy efficient homes, energy savings from daylighting can be
achieved in two ways – either from the reduced use of electric lighting required due to adequate
daylight provided through the patio door. Alternatively, passive solar heating or cooling can be
provided by placing the patio door on either the sunny or shaded side of the house.

Why You Need to Know Algebra?

Tuesday, May 12th, 2009

One of the most popular courses of study institutions have for students learning maths is algebra. Although learning algebra is believed tough, there are a lot of students taking this course of study.

A lot of individuals are not even actually sure what is involved in algebra but it is not awful as a lot of individuals think. Most base algebra include finding least common multiple, factoring difference of cubes and reducing fractions.

When students are studying mathematics, especially at college stage it is very critical for them to employ some planning and also some continuity in learning mathematical constructs from easy to hard ones. There are a lot of college mathematics courses of study at introductory stage that are based around establishing a strong path for the road into higher mathematics as they enable learning the elementary skills that are required.

Who offers assistance?

For helping you in mastering algebra, there is a number of software programs and these include programs such as algebra calculators. A tutor for algebra is also a surefire way to enhancing your algebra skills. The software systems are very good and will assist you with all aspects of algebra including non-linear equations , graphing quadratic inequalities , simplifying fractions with same denominators and on master the basic and advanced topics of algebra.

If you start studying maths from the beginning, it is a good idea to do one of the first stage courses of study as they will teach you the very basic principles and build on that so that you are able to get up to the more complex stage of maths. The beginning topics of algebra teach the pupils the correct approach through the use of a vast number of different examples and methods so this is an ideal starting point for the beginner to algebra .

Troubles With Virtual Tutors

The only problem with maths courses of study is that they sometimes do not follow reasoning in a very logical order and this particularly is the case when you are a student at primary school. A lot of the pupils at school are really very ill-prepared for learning algebra and they are not aware of the basics of this notable branch of mathematics.

How to Be a Physician

Tuesday, May 12th, 2009

If you are looking to become a qualified Physician, then you will need to improve your consultant interviews

If you need to complete your medical training in the UK, then you are bound to find the ensuing information of use.

Medical Training in the United Kingdom
There are three phases to training to be a UK Medic.

Medical School
Firstly, you will usually spend five years studying for a degree in medicine at a medical school attached to a university. As well as classroom based learning, you will also spend time in hospitals and GP surgeries to undertake your clinical training.

Postgraduate Medical Education
Phase 2 of your training involves either a 5 or 9 year training programme. Everyone completes a 2 year foundation programme to make sure that they are on the medical register. After that point you may wish to enter a 3 year training programme for general practice or a more intense training programme that will result in you being qualified to be a hospital consulant.

There are a range of specialities open to you once you have qualified. The sixty or so fields can be based either in the hospital setting or within the community, such as general practice or public health. The hospital settings may either be medical or surgical in essence. .

Continuing Medical Education
The third part of a Physician’s training is continuing medical education which carries on throughout a Physician’s career.

Becoming a doctor in the UK is easier than it has been in the past. The number of medical school places has increased under the current government and you will find that the opportunities for potential applicants has increased. Thus the competition rates are lower than previously. Clearly, in order to succeed, you will need to develop decent interview skills to deal with the various questions that will be fired at you in a medical interview. Try to get yourself trained in interview skills by looking online for resources and tips and if necessary get on a medical interview course.

The Secret to Negotiations for FSBO Sellers

Sunday, May 10th, 2009

When it comes to buying or selling a home, the idea of having to negotiate can be intimidating. Most of us aren’t aware we have negotiating skills even though we skillfully negotiate daily. (Who walks the dog, takes the children to school, goes out to pick up lunch, prepares the report, etc., etc.?) Let’s debunk some myths about negotiating, shall we?

This Is Not Negotiable

Sellers often say to themselves, “This is the deal I’m willing to make. It’s not negotiable.” That’s not necessarily because there is no room to negotiate. It is the simple result of anxiety about negotiating.

Take this approach and you may be chasing away otherwise good potential buyers. The buyer gets into a huff about the seller’s inflexibility and everything goes down hill from there. This need not happen. Sellers should be willing to enter into reasonable negotiations and just remember that they can say “no” at any point along the way toward working out a deal. However, they need to ask themselves when each subject comes up, “Am I willing to lose this deal over this point?”

The buyer needs to have a similar mindset. When seller and buyer are thinking along the lines outlined above, and each acknowledges the possibility of working out a deal in which both buyer and seller come away feeling like winners, the stage is set for successful negotiations. It is fortunate that most folks do think along these lines.

It’s also helpful that buyers and sellers are not always focused on the same things to the same degree. Price might be more important to one, and the time of the sale’s completion more important to the other. Sometimes negotiations are just a matter of balancing things out.

Typical Pattern

Successful negotiations don’t usually drag on for a long period of time. There’s usually an offer, and a counter-offer which is accepted. Many times the first offer is actually accepted if it is the result of a conversation between buyer and seller where subtle negotiations took place. At most, successful negotiations are usually concluded with an offer, a counter offer, and a counter-counter offer. It’s usually a sign that the deal is not going to work out if negotiations continue much beyond that.

There are exceptions to everything, of course, and the minuet of negotiations can go on for quite some time where two people who love to negotiate are involved. However, even in those cases, most of it tends to be verbal with the written sales contract changed very few times.

The biggest point of this article is don’t get intimidated. If you stay objective, you will be able to get what you need from your home.
