Developing relationships: Begin by memorizing the names of the staff. Encourage conversation; look co-workers in the eye as you are speaking. Be respectful, and be attentive to everything the other individual has to say, regardless of whether you are in agreement with them. Listening to what staff have to offer is one of the best talent management skills in your arsenal. Show an interest in what they can offer the business. Live up to your word: Keeping your promises is key. If a promise is broken, it will destroy trust, and individuals will not offer you their best if they do not trust you. Everytime you make a statement or make a promise, you are squandering your time if you don’t act with integrity. You’ll find, if you can’t be counted on, you can be sure they will behave in a similar manner. Be open to any observations: Feedback should be a two-way process. Talent management skills mean having an open mind to all feedback. Being approachable and open proves that you appreciate other people’s ideas, your ideas will be appreciated in the same manner. Frank discussion in addition encourages fresh ways of thinking, original methods of achieving the mission of the team, and strengthens the bonds of an excellent team. If team members can express themselves, each employee invests in the results. Promote communication: Your people management skills come down to the same thing — communication. Be approachable, listen intently to other people’s opinions, keep an open mind, and allow all your employees a chance to express their views. Staff should be encouraged to speak with each other not only with you. The creative process relies heavily on the open exchange of ideas, and through listening to one another, it becomes easy to spot any issues before they present as a problem, allowing corrective action to be taken to prevent any further problems. Some time will be required, even so the payoff is worth it. By building the bonds of a good team and developing good listening techniques, you can achieve a successful business.
